Small Business Feature ~ Double Crown Photography

Tell us about yourself.

My name is Sherry Sims. I am a 24 year old wife and mother to two little girls. I live in the great state of Alabama, but I was born and raised in Connecticut and most of my family lives there.

Tell us about your business.

I am a photographer. I do children and family lifestyle photography and even shoot the occasional pageant. Photography is large part of my life. It has been a long time love for me. I greatly enjoy photographing children especially. The innocence, they are so free from being self conscious like adults are. You could just follow them around and the pictures happen you just have to wait for it. It's amazing how different you can see the world from behind a camera. It's almost like you can see it with a fresh pair of eyes.

What has been your biggest challenge so far?

Trying to build a client base has been my biggest challenge so far. There are already established photographers in my area so it is very hard to find someone who isn't already loyal to someone else. Advertising without having much start up money is also very hard. And there is always someone that offers photography for less money.

Where do you advertise...or do you?

I advertise on facebook.

Do you have a Website, Blog, Facebook Page, etc.?

I have a blog www.doublecrownphoto.wordpress.com and also a facebook www.facebook.com/doublecrownphoto Using facebook has been a big help. Clients can tag themselves in my photos so all of their friends see them and lead them in my direction. It's the easiest way to get the word of mouth advertising. The blog is something I just started but as I work through adding to it I hope to make it my main web page that customers can use to view my portfolio and all business information.
